Teddy Has a Friend

October 24, 2009 By Christie

Teddy has a friend, and Devon has a broken arm. That poor kid.
He and Carson were playing outside on Thursday night and had an accident. Devon tipped backwards on his bike, and Carson fell on top of him. But Devon had his hand out in the back to catch himself. He broke his arm right above the elbow, so it’s a bad break, but not the worst. They said there are 3 levels, and his is a 2, so that’s good:).
It happened about 6:30 pm, I decided at 7:00 to take him to the ER, and had to wait for Dillon to get home. We were at MWMC for 4 1/2 hours. For them to tell us to go to Primary Children’s. I think after the last two things with Dev, I’ve decided we’ll just start there. Besides that, they were way too busy in Tooele. We were out in the hallway on a bed because they were so packed. It took 2 hours just to get in the hallway, and another hour to actually speak to a doctor!
The nurse just thought it was his shoulder, that it was dislocated, so even though he told him right where it hurt, they only took x-rays of his shoulder. The doctor saw the break on the bottom of the x-ray, so we had to do the x-rays again! Which with a broken bone is no fun! We were told to go to PCMC because he’d probably need surgery.
The bone broke and then turned out, so it was a spiral fracture. So they said they were going to have to do the surgery to move the bone back and put some rods in it. It’s hard to see, but the white lines are the fracture, and the bone as you probably can see, is not where it should be!

We got to PCMC at 1:30 am and they scheduled the surgery for 7:30 am. Luckily they had been giving him morphine since we got to the first ER. We didn’t get into a room until 4:30 am, then they woke us up at 6, then again at 7:15 am to go into the surgery. He was in surgery for about an hour. They put him out for it obviously since they were working his bone around to get it back in place, and YEA because they just stuck the rods in through the skin. And, as before, he was totally weirded out in the recovery room, screaming for me even though I was right there, and yelling OW OW OW over and over.

We got home yesterday around 2:00 pm. They had to wait for him to wake up and eat, pee, and take his Lortab to see how he did with it before we could go hom. He slept after the surgery until 11:00 am. And ordered pancakes for lunch:).

He’s actually in a lot of pain still. Worse than last night (we still had the cousin Halloween party here because he’d be super sad if we didn’t do it), but probably because he had morphine and other drugs yesterday. But he’s on Lortab and is sleeping now, so that’s good.
Carson made him a get well card.

He’s in a sling for a week until the swelling goes down, then they’ll cast it hopefully on Friday, then he’ll wear that for 3 weeks, and they’ll take the cast off and the pins out!
Just a couple cute things that were said:
-On our way to the ER, I was telling him they’d take pictures of his arm, like the pics we put together at Primary’s Children’s during his stay there. He got teary eyed and said, “You mean, they are going to take my arm off?” I said no and tried to explain better. He said, “You mean, they will go inside my arm to take the picture?” I guess it is hard to understand, isn’t it!?
-When he was trying to sleep in the chairs in the waiting room at PCMC, he said, “I just want to sleep in my own comfy, cozy bed.”
-Dillon said Carson was about to have the last of the eggnog, when he said, “I will save it for Devon. I don’t want him to feel left out.”
-We were waiting to leave the first ER, and Devon had to catch himself from falling backwards, so he noticed he could still use one hand. He said, “Well, lucky I didn’t break BOTH my arms!” Way to look on the bright side, my sweet boy!

Poor Dev. I hope you guys get a break from all this soon. They say things come in threes and if that's the case, he's totally done. Sweet boy.

Seriously?! Poor kid–this has got to be the worst year of his life! I think this entitles him to at least 5 years of nothing more than a runny nose, or a stubbed toe. :) Your Halloween decorations are awesome, by the way!

Memorable Moments June 2015

~Ruby says "Thank You" when you give her anything. Except it's more like "Day Oooo." I love it. She's also trying harder to say please (or Peeeeze) for things she wants. What a polite little girl :).

~Yesterday Bailey came down with the Clone Trooper costume on, which is 4 sizes too big I'm pretty sure, and her bull horns on. It was awesome. And sums up this girl pretty darn well.

~Carson told us that he was the laughing stock of Primary on Sunday. He meant to say the Class Clown :).

~Devon's so funny these days. If you catch him doing something he shouldn't be, he gets an innocent little smile and then starts rolling his eyes everywhere except looking at you. :)
