I really wish we lived closer to the event so we could have heard him speak at 11:30, but we got to witness Gail Halvorsen do one last Candy Bombing. The fly over was at 4:00 so I wasn’t sure what we’d do that whole time in between. Originally he was set to speak at 3:30 and we planned to go. I’m sure he was charming.

There were an insane amount of people there. However, it was really neat to witness this and imagine the smile on his face and see the amazing crowd who gathered to witness the historic event. My kids LOVED him in Meet the Mormons. They loved the whole movie–we got done watching it and Devon was just smiling and said, “I just felt the Spirit the whole time.” It’s a great movie but Mr. Halvorsen stole the show. He’s so sweet and kind and I loved his story so much.
Don’t ask me why Bailey decided to bring fur hats in 100 degree weather. They removed them very soon after these were taken.
The kids got to sit in a WWI vehicle. Awesome!
You can barely see some parachutes on the picture below. We were definitely not in the best spot but there were thousands even further behind us.
Here’s the plane Gail was helping to fly:
And you can see three planes barely below.
I’m glad we went, despite the 8,000+ people there! My kids knew they would most likely not get candy and I was super proud of the way they handled the whole event. They were prepared and they knew it was to witness him flying and doing one last candy bombing!
