Carson’s expert report was on dinosaurs. He’s a bit of a know-it-all on plenty of subjects, but especially dinosaurs. Those bones drawn below—genuine fossilized bones. Actual size. When asked, “What does fossilized mean?” He responded with, “Darker and not as heavy.” Another child asked him if the Utah raptor had any enemies. Carson didn’t hesitate one second. “Army ants. Giant army ants.” The next pictures are form the First grade assembly. Here is his teacher Mrs. Heaton in the blue jacket. The one in the pink is the principle. We loved Mrs. Heaton! *And someday Carson will ask me why I let him go to school dressed like that. I don’t know why. I check with him, “Are you sure you want to wear that today?” His reply is always yes. This is one of those, “Choose your battles” moments. Or “preserve his childhood while no one makes fun of him” moments. Either one. *He was pretty proud of himself for getting the National Presidential Fitness award. Field Day! I was a little bummed because I got assigned to help out with another class but his group was pretty close to mine so I got to snap a few shots. He said Field Day was the best day of school all year. Even better than the field trip to the Discovery Museum downtown. We walked him home from school that day and Bailey fell asleep. I felt like doing the same because the last two weeks with all the helping around the school and things going on—it was exhausting! We got a pizza and headed to the park. And froze because it was only, like May 27th. Carson’s go-to pose. He’s always excited about something!
