December 17, 2015 Donation Trip!

December 31, 2015 By Christie

It’s donation time again! This time it marks 2 years since Ruby’s open heart surgery!

I can’t really explain just how much this visit to Primary Children’s Hospital means to me!

My kids help out, they are happy, I am happy, we are all happy at the hospital as we eat our cafeteria food that we actually really like, and it’s just a peaceful, calming, enjoyable tradition. It really helps me to remember the time there and appreciate ALL of my kid’s health. This year it was even more special to my other kids because we specified that some of the donated bags of fun went to a child who just had their appendix out, as well as a baby who has craniosynostosis. Devon had his appendix rupture when he was 4 and spent 5 days at Primary Children’s Hospital, and Bailey was born with craniosynostosis and had a major surgery on her head at 2 months old.

As I posted about before, we donated some things that I received from others, which is always so hopeful. The fact that her surgery anniversary is in the busiest month of the year can be a little stressful–I think I need to start sooner so I have everything done and ready to donate in November!

We donated THESE quilts, THIS quilt, some more of THESE stuffed animals, and the items donated from THIS post. It was great :). I also used the fabric from the fabric my mom donated and made some Heart Lovies–this time just out of flannel since that is what she gave me. These are SO easy to make, but I was still very pleased I didn’t need to sew them all because of Erin and her donation. So sweet :).

I had big plans to make a lot of zipper heart ornaments, but it was getting to be too much. I did enlist my kids to help me sew the heart garlands! They seriously LOVED sewing these and they are so easy for kids to do. I had already cut out all the hearts so they just went to town and would have sewn all of them had I let them stay up even later. It was a big help for me though, and I love that they had a bigger part in the donation.

Memorable Moments June 2015

~Ruby says "Thank You" when you give her anything. Except it's more like "Day Oooo." I love it. She's also trying harder to say please (or Peeeeze) for things she wants. What a polite little girl :).

~Yesterday Bailey came down with the Clone Trooper costume on, which is 4 sizes too big I'm pretty sure, and her bull horns on. It was awesome. And sums up this girl pretty darn well.

~Carson told us that he was the laughing stock of Primary on Sunday. He meant to say the Class Clown :).

~Devon's so funny these days. If you catch him doing something he shouldn't be, he gets an innocent little smile and then starts rolling his eyes everywhere except looking at you. :)
