Wake up and feed boys breakfast.
Dillon gets up a little later (he totally deserves it!) and we have family scripture study. Carson starts talking about Santa and I remind him the real reason we celebrate Christmas is because of Jesus. He gets a little upset and says, “No, Santa.” and I tell him that Heavenly Father and Jesus are the ones that give us everything we have, and Jesus loves us much more than Santa ever could, so much that He died for us. He doesn’t seem satisfied. I’m about to tell him the truth about Santa, but Dillon steps in and starts to talk about Santa with intentions of stating that he’s nice but Heavenly Father taught him to be when Carson interrupts him and says, “No dad, Christmas is about Jesus,” and goes on about all the stuff I just said. He even said the “Heavenly Father gave us Jesus and loves us more than Santa” part, so I am pleased he listened even when he doesn’t act like it.
Breakfast is over so Dillon goes downstairs to practice his song he’s singing with his mom for her Relief Society lesson, during which I decide the boys need a haircut. Cut Devon’s hair with no problems. Carson runs away and hides behind couch like I’m about to beat him–screaming at me, “No! Tomorrow! Tomorrow!” I finally convince him to sit in the chair and turn clippers on. He runs away screaming and crying again. No he doesn’t want a haircut. Please mommy, please don’t cut my hair. Don’t act like you care that I’m well-groomed! I again convince him and this time strap him into the chair. Turn clippers on and he starts leaning forward about to tip himself face first onto the kitchen floor. I’m about to help him. Terrible haircut in which I vow AGAIN to NEVER cut his hair again, it’s worth the $10.00. Dillon leaves to go to his mom’s ward to sing.
Kids get in bath while I prepare our (Dillon and I teach together) lesson while sitting on bathroom floor. Think again to myself, “Why don’t I do the lesson earlier!!!?”
Kids are pretty cold and pruny so get them out. Get them dressed while Carson says the whole time, “I need my privacy! Don’t look at me.” but it’s the act of getting dressed/undressed he doesn’t like us to see since he comes in naked when the deed of undressing is done.
Let them watch Little Einstein while I shower. Dillon gets home at 12:30. My hair is wet and the kids need lunch and bag needs to be packed.
Get to church just in time. Give our lesson to nine 6 year olds that are tired but oddly enough have loads of energy. Get to listen to them tell us totally random things in answer to our questions. Favorite one of all, “You know what? When a bad guy is after you, you kick them down there…” pointing to their crotch.
Go to sharing time and grin through it all as they are still cute kids–after all, they do make us laugh every Sunday and we love them.
Go to Sacrament last. Carson is excited because his friend who is sitting just in front of us has glasses. “Mom! Reese has glasses too! And so does Reese’s dad!”
Take Sacrament. “I’m thirsty mom. See! The church has water!!!”
Trying to think about Jesus during Sacrament…”All those people don’t have glasses!”
Devon says amen when it’s quiet just to break the silence. He also opposes whoever is being sustained. “You know what? I love Heavenly Father and Jesus.”
First speaker up. Great talk. Listening…”Mom! Is that Mr. Hinckley!?”
“I’m poopy. You know mom…I’m poopy.” He’s not.
Feel spirit very strongly during last speaker, so much it makes me cry. Feel so loved by Heavenly Father.
“I have glasses and so does Reese’s dad!!!”
Tell speakers thank you for bringing the Spirit into the meeting. What a great meeting! Thank goodness Heavenly Father let me feel the Spirit through all of that! SO excited for 9:00 church instead of 1:00. A couple more weeks. Then I’ll have to have my lesson ready before Sunday!
Boys fight on the 24 second ride home. Get inside–Dillon and I immediately change into our warmest clothes–pj’s. 20 minutes later realize we have tithing settlement. Change back into church clothes. Carson gives the bishop one of his 10 paper tithing he got in his class. Tells him he’s not excited yet for preschool. Devon tells him he loves strawberries.
Get home and Dillon and I try and plan a bit for the rest of December. Christmas music is on and it talks about Jesus’ Dad on earth, Joseph. Devon says “Joseph Smith?” and we explain all of that to him.
Decide tonight would be great to look at Christmas lights around the neighborhood. Had a great time. Devon fell asleep half way through since he doesn’t get naps on Sundays.
Get home, put kids to bed, blog and try and finish our stockings! Happy Sunday!
The End.
