Devon turned 4 today! I can’t believe it, really, he doesn’t seem that old to me. But 4 he is! He woke up to see his door decorated, ran into my room, and said, “It’s my birthday mom! I’m so glad I made it!” Me too Dev! When Dillon called him on the phone to sing to him, he sang the whole Happy Birthday song. After Dillon was done singing, Devon said, “You know dad? It’s my birthday today!” Funny kid.
We had a yummy orange roll breakfast, went to the funner park down the street (despite the crazy wind), had lunch outside, had his friend party, made alien pancakes for dinner, and had his strawberry cake. He was very specific about wanting the strawberry cake. I asked him what he wanted for dinner, and he said, “I already told you mom. Strawberry cake. Oh, and strawberries and grapes. That’s all.”
I love what a sweet kid Devon is. He has always been so concerned about other people, especially if they are sad.
If Carson and Devon want the same seat, and we decide it’s Dev’s turn to get it, he’ll normally say, “It’s okay if Carson has it.”
Once in McDonald’s, I saw him sitting by a crying girl patting her back, just making sure she was okay.
I came inside from getting the mail last week, and Devon was crying because Bailey was so sad and he had tried to help her but she was still sad. He was just so concerned for her!
I love how laid-back Devon is. If things don’t go his way, he’s almost always okay to accept a different option.
He is very slow to anger. He’s full of love, this kid.
He’s so proud of Bailey. In church on Sunday, some kids behind us were smiling at her. He was smiling, looking back and forth between them and her, and turned to them with a huge grin and said, “She’s cute, huh.”
On Sunday, we celebrated with my family. He opened the first card, looked at it, and said, “I’ve been wanting this for a long time!” He’s really happy with simple things. It’s great. We only got him a soccer ball and a hot wheels car for his birthday, and he loved it. (Figured we might as well keep it simple while he’s okay with it!).
He’s also very good at sharing.
He tells me at least once a day, if not more like once an hour, “Mommy, I love you.” He’ll say to Bailey often, “You’re the best baby ever.”
His party was a lot of fun. We did a superhero theme, since he remembered Carson’s from when he turned 4 and wanted the same. So we just had everyone come dressed as a superhero. We colored superheroes first, then I drew bad guy faces on balloons and they “beat” those up, we sprayed a bad guy big drawing with silly string, and they had a water fight outside. It was so warm, thankfully, and SO windy, which was good to dry them off:).
I make lame cakes. I need to repent. I bought a cake-making book at DI today for a buck. Hopefully it is a buck well spent and you won’t have to see my lame cakes anymore. Seriously, what better time to make cute cakes than now? I don’t know that I’ve ever done a really cool cake…ever. So yah, I’ll make neat cakes and sin no more. :)
You can’t tell in this picture, but they were doing head-ers on the soccer ball.

Happy B-day Devon! Sorry I wasn’t at the family party. I’ll give you his gift the next time I see you. What’s wrong with that cake? That’s the kind of cake I make. (I think mine are pretty lame too)

What a sweet little guy! Looks like he had a great b-day. Your cake looks perfect; besides, store bought frosting is so disgusting.. I love the picture of him with all the balloons in his mouth, even though I almost panicked before I reminded myself that he must have lived through it..!!!

What a sweetheart! I love seeing your b-day party pics and hearing your ideas. I think your cake is very cute! Thanks for the nice compliment on my pictures. Having my photos viewed as magical means a lot to me. Let me know if that cake decorating book is any good.

Devon really is a very cute kid. I wish we could see you more often! We will be at dessert on the 15th though, so we are excited! And I am glad to hear that someone else makes lame cakes too. Actually, I don’t think I’ve ever actually made a cake…only cupcakes. :)

Devon truly is such a sweetheart and so aware of others’ feelings. That will definitely come in handy when he’s a husband and father. Happy be-lated birthday Dev!
