He shows the kids that he loves them by what he does.
Carson and Devon went upstairs to play. Dillon had already said goodbye to them. Carson came down, looked around, and said, “Dad? Where are you?” I said, “He’s outside getting in his truck.” Carson said, “Ohhhh, I wanted to give him a hug before he left!” and ran outside. Dillon didn’t see him, so Carson’s jumping up and down, running after his truck, with his hand raised, screaming, “WAIT! DAD WAIT!” It was actually pretty sad to see. He came in, just purely heart-broken. I said we could call him and just say goodbye on the phone and that he missed him. So we call Dillon, and Carson is sobbing, “I just wanted to give you one last hug dad.” He’d been gone probably 4-5 minutes at this time, and had a lot of work to do. Did he tell him to just suck it up and wait till he got home or try and convince him he was okay?
Nope, he turned that truck right around and came home for more hugs and kisses. He showed them that even when he is busy, he’ll take time out for them if they feel they really need it. What a great lesson.

I’m thinking what great boys you are raising, with an example like that for a Dad, they’re going to grow up being wonderful husbands and fathers.

Christie–you’ve reminded and encouraged me about the opportunity to remember the little things that happen everyday that really make up the majority of who we are. The major events are important to write down too, or course, but thanks for sharing these small moments.
