It’s Raining, It’s Pouring

October 28, 2009 By Christie

On Devon.

Devon has strep–found out tonight. I’m so glad it wasn’t the swine flu like they originally tested for since it’s going around like crazy here.

Yes, it could be worse. I know that–but he doesn’t know that, you know, being 4 and all. But seriously, he’s being such a trooper with everything. When we went to the doctor though, he cried and said, “I am tired of going to the doctor!” Amen, brother. And of course, I realize that we are lucky to have them and that he could be having a life-threatening illness, but he doesn’t know all this. I’m just so glad it’s something they can easily make better! (What’s sad is that he is missing a lot of fun things. And there are things that are going on at Carson’s school that Cars was excited for me to come for that I have to miss.)

He gets his cast on Thursday.

I have to tell you how impressed Dillon and I have been with Devon. I think that because he is just a fun-loving, sweet boy, he is easily cheered up and has a happy disposition, and so it is misleading to how he is feeling. I can tell you that despite everything going on, he has really proven to be a tough, brave boy. Seriously, most people with strep are miserable, and he definitely was, but despite the pain he had and a really high fever, he dealt with it so well, still being able to be cheered up by Bailey and other things throughout the day. With his appendix, he’d be in so much pain, but would make a sweet comment about loving me or about other stuff that most people would not be thinking of when they are dealing with what he was. With his arm, he looked at the bright side and said, “Lucky I didn’t break both arms. ” Seriously?! What an awesome little boy. He is being tried and tested, and is definitely coming out on top.

(For anyone who is keeping track of this poor boys record, here’s the breakdown: Sept. 1st, stomach flu that lasted more than 24 hours by far; Sept. 12th, first symptoms of appendix. Got home from PCMC on Sept. 18th; Sept. 23rd, got really high fever and tested for everything they could think of, treated with amoxicillin; Sept. 25th-ish through about now, got a horrible cold lasting a week, croupy, fever, etc, and the cough has seriously gone on forever; Oct. 22nd broke arm and Oct. 23rd visited the surgeon’s room and came home; Oct. 27th, has strep. Hopefully that’s the end of the list for a while!).

I think he needs a break and you do too. I hope he feels better soon, strep, in a way, is worse than the stomach flu. At least he's on antibiotics now and will hopefully be feeling better in no time. Good luck!

Memorable Moments June 2015

~Ruby says "Thank You" when you give her anything. Except it's more like "Day Oooo." I love it. She's also trying harder to say please (or Peeeeze) for things she wants. What a polite little girl :).

~Yesterday Bailey came down with the Clone Trooper costume on, which is 4 sizes too big I'm pretty sure, and her bull horns on. It was awesome. And sums up this girl pretty darn well.

~Carson told us that he was the laughing stock of Primary on Sunday. He meant to say the Class Clown :).

~Devon's so funny these days. If you catch him doing something he shouldn't be, he gets an innocent little smile and then starts rolling his eyes everywhere except looking at you. :)
