Hurst Home Cookin’ Diner

May 20, 2010 By Christie

My mom and her siblings talk about how my Grandma and Grandpa would do a little dinner at home and pretend it was a restaurant, complete with my Grandpa being the server and them getting to make their orders.  I’ve wanted to do that with my kids for a really long time, and this Sunday, rather than cooking more food when we had a fridge full of leftovers, I made some menus and the kids got to pretend they were at a restaurant.
Oh my goodness, we had a great time!
Dillon was a cowboy and the waiter.  He talked with his western accent and the boys didn’t miss a beat and spoke in the same accent the whole time.
Carson especially got into it and said at one point during dinner, “Where’s the bathroom in this nice place of yours?”  After dinner he still spoke that way.  I was laying on the couch and he laid down on the other couch and said, “It’s shur nice ya’ll have a place ta rest here.”
So I was the cook and just got to make desserts and warm up leftovers!  They ordered the same thing (which is what Dillon and I would have “ordered” also).  The funny thing about it all that we learned?  Is that if they didn’t eat it the first time, they definitely won’t eat it the second time around.
I’m so happy I have such great examples to learn from!  We’ll be doing this again I’m sure!  The kids won’t stop talking about it!  Carson said, “Remember that one restaurant called Hurst Home Cookin’ Diner?  That was sure good food there.  Two thumbs up!”

I remember one year mom and dad did that for my birthday party. We'll totally have to try that! Carson's hilarious!

seriously, Christie! You amaze me! My boys would love this. But D takes all of our leftovers for lunch at work. Still, I might have to try to work this out one day.

What a totally fun idea! I am for sure doing this next time I have a bunch of leftovers. I love Carson's reaction in one of the first pictures, priceless!
And Carson is so sweet in helping Devon when he's sick. How cute!

Memorable Moments June 2015

~Ruby says "Thank You" when you give her anything. Except it's more like "Day Oooo." I love it. She's also trying harder to say please (or Peeeeze) for things she wants. What a polite little girl :).

~Yesterday Bailey came down with the Clone Trooper costume on, which is 4 sizes too big I'm pretty sure, and her bull horns on. It was awesome. And sums up this girl pretty darn well.

~Carson told us that he was the laughing stock of Primary on Sunday. He meant to say the Class Clown :).

~Devon's so funny these days. If you catch him doing something he shouldn't be, he gets an innocent little smile and then starts rolling his eyes everywhere except looking at you. :)
