What a privilege

September 15, 2016 By Christie

Carson’s birthday was last week. Bailey’s is in a couple days. I have been thinking a lot late, about what a privilege it is to know my children. To know them better than anyone else outside our family. That is amazing! What a huge wondrous, amazing thing God has blessed and trusted us with in families.

Someone mentioned something about Bailey the other week, not horrible but not really complimentary towards her either. It kind of caught me off guard, because true, they had witnessed this about her before, probably on more than one occasion. But she is SO MUCH MORE than what was said, and in fact I thought it was interesting that someone else saw her that way. Bailey is amazing, sweet, kind, fun, a wonderful friend, thoughtful, a hard worker, and happy! She’s oh so happy. She’s always looking on the bright side of things.

I hear things said about Carson frequently also, and again, he is SO MUCH MORE than brief observations. He is fun, smart, goofy, aware of trying not to hurt others feelings (especially at school and with his friends), and so so kind and helpful at home at times, and he is learning and growing and I’m so proud of him and who is becoming.

I also hear about how shy and quiet Devon always is and I wish they were able to witness how amazing he is, how strong he is, how sweet and kind and funny he can be. He is such a good kid.

Ruby is frequently talked about as a feisty little girl who is super busy. True, true. However, we also know her as such a sweet little girl, always giving hugs, telling me “you the best mom evah”, so so polite, and so dang much fun.

What I’m trying to say is, we are all so much more than our brief observations. I am completely positive I make the same assumptions about people, but really, we don’t know anyone all that well, just what they choose to show us.  There is SO MUCH good in everyone. It’s like President Uchtdorf said, something about how of course if we look for the bad, we can find it. But if we look for the good, we will also find that.

I am so incredibly thankful for my kids. So thankful for everything they teach me and for who I am because of them. I love knowing their favorites, their fears, their insecurities, their gains and their challenges. It’s so amazing to watch. It’s incredible that we can know another human being so well, and watch them grow and mature and learn in life. dsc_0804

Memorable Moments June 2015

~Ruby says "Thank You" when you give her anything. Except it's more like "Day Oooo." I love it. She's also trying harder to say please (or Peeeeze) for things she wants. What a polite little girl :).

~Yesterday Bailey came down with the Clone Trooper costume on, which is 4 sizes too big I'm pretty sure, and her bull horns on. It was awesome. And sums up this girl pretty darn well.

~Carson told us that he was the laughing stock of Primary on Sunday. He meant to say the Class Clown :).

~Devon's so funny these days. If you catch him doing something he shouldn't be, he gets an innocent little smile and then starts rolling his eyes everywhere except looking at you. :)
