Hopefully these will not become numbered posts, but I do want to keep track of the good ones!
I had dropped Carson off at preschool and went to Walmart to do some grocery shopping with Devon and Bailey. Bailey has decided early on that she is NOT a shopper. She doesn’t sleep in the store and really wants to be held the whole time. This time was no exception. So what I do is hold her in one arm and pull the cart with the other since it’s a bit hard to steer with one hand. So that’s what we were doing when Devon decided to walk behind the cart where you’d normally be pushing. Well, I stopped to get something and he ran into it, which naturally, made him cry. I’d probably cry as well if I just walked into a cart and hit my head. So I calmed him down and we were on our way, after I had warned him to watch where he was walking.
So we continued on, I stop, and BAM! Devon rams into the cart AGAIN from behind and this time, gets a spewing nosebleed. He’s screaming now, but mostly because he has blood on his finger. Luckily, I had some tissues in the diaper bag and tried to calm him down. He wasn’t having it. Devon is pretty sensitive anyways, but this was an unusual outburst of screaming and crying that I could just not get him to stop. This woke up Bailey. So, I tried to keep my cool and hold the tissue on his nose, while trying to get him to pinch the top which he REFUSED to do. I’m trying to rock Bailey since she is screaming, and it’s all insanity at this point. There is blood on me, Bailey, Devon, and all over the floor. Lucky for Devon, he had his fireman costume on–plastic. I’m trying to wipe the blood off the floor, keep it from spraying out his nose, calm him down, and calm Bailey down–all without me starting to cry as well. People are passing us in the aisle and just making sure they didn’t roll their cart through the blood on the ground. Finally, someone did ask me if I needed a tissue.
His nose finally stops bleeding, and all is calm again. Yes, I think I passed that little test quite well, thank you! And folks, if you are reading this, please have mercy on the poor mother in the store with blood everywhere and two screaming kids. Maybe they thought I’m the one who hit him in the nose. I don’t know. I think I might get a fireman costume to wear next trip to Walmart!

Oh that one is great, but i still love the bathroom one, good job at not losing your cool to bad…

You seem to have all the luck when shopping, well, all the bad luck that is. I don’t know if I would have been able to stay calm.

Okay, next shopping day, let me take your kids. Seriously. My boys would love to have yours over anyway. And no one should have to deal with blood at WalMart, fireman costume or not!

Why does this have to happen in public? It never fails. Just when you think you have a simple everyday act like grocery shopping with kids down, bam someone slams their head in to a cart… blood, screaming, tears, and all we think is please don’t judge my passer-by. I could just use a little help. By the way, Morgan HATED shopping when she was a baby, and she still does. I keep hoping it will change, still waiting. Kudos for keeping your cool!

I love how you’re writing all these incidents and insights that you have on a regular basis. You are so thoughtful about life and patient with your kids. If that happened to me in Wal-mart–nope, my mind just won’t think about it. Thanks for being you, Christie.

Oh, Christie! Someday, your kids will truly appreciate you! You are such a wonderful mother. (I ran over Beck TWICE today with the cart, because he CANNOT walk next to it without ending up in front of it. And with Eli’s carseat on the top, I can’t see over very well, so I knocked Beck flat — twice. Nice mom, huh?)
