Let’s start by saying that my boys LOVED this. They thought it was the greatest thing to go get so messy, throw chalk and perfect strangers, get in the mud (not the plan, but oh well), wade through a pond in the parking lot, be loud, etc. etc. Bailey on the other hand was 1) cold 2) tired 3) hating every minute of it. And we parked about a mile away and she was so tired and cold I basically carried her the whole way there and the whole way back…and the whole time in between to protect her, but she didn’t want me to touch her with my hands because well, I was throwing chalk with them and I might get her messy! I tried to warn her about it and she said it sounded fun, but walking into a place where everyone is a mess and colorful, with us wearing non-colorful clothes on, is just asking for it. So people are holding their bags of scented chalk, waiting for those who don’t have any chalk on them. You walk through this crowd to get your chalk, and people thought little Bailey was so cute and poof! Threw chalk in her face or in her hair. She started to hide from every person who made eye contact with her. What was so fun was that there are people from all walks of life there. I was a little nervous walking into it, because I kind of felt like part of it was a mosh pit with the loud music and everyone in a large mass of people jumping around and chanting the Hari Krishna words. There were kids who looked like they might beat you up in other circumstances, and for some reason my kids LOVED to throw chalk at them! So I was nervous, but it was really cool because those kids would turn around and look at them like they were punks, my kids would laugh, then they’d laugh and all be throwing chalk at each other. It was a bit cold, and rained for a little bit, and we parked far, but I’m still glad we went. We arrived on the decision that Bailey will not be participating in the Piglet Plunge after my Dirty Dash race! The boys on the other hand are totally in for that!
